Thotta Sinugai is a low-growing, succulent leafy herb belonging to the Portulacaceae family. It is commonly grown in gardens and also found as a natural ground-cover plant. It is valued both as a nutritious leafy green and a medicinal plant.
Stems are soft, reddish, and creeping, with thick, fleshy green leaves.
Leaves are rich in Omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins A, C, and minerals.
Used as a keerai (greens) in Tamil cuisine—kootu, poriyal, and soups.
In traditional medicine, it helps in cooling the body, improving digestion, and reducing inflammation.
Grows well in full sunlight, tolerates heat, and needs well-drained soil.
Very easy to grow in pots, grow bags, and garden beds.
